What is Padel?
Padel is a racquet sport that combines elements of tennis and squash. It’s typically played in doubles on an enclosed court that’s about a third the size of a tennis court. The game is easy to pick up, making it a great choice for beginners and players of all ages. Unlike tennis, there are walls in play, adding a unique element to the game.
Basic Rules of Padel:
Team Play: Padel is usually played in doubles (2 vs 2), although there are singles courts.
Serve: The serve is underarm, and the ball is bounced first on the ground before it is hit into the service box of the opposite side. The serve should land diagonally in the opponent’s service box.
Scoring: The scoring system is the same as in tennis (15, 30, 40, game), with sets and matches.
Walls in Play: After the ball hits the ground, it can bounce off the walls, which the receiving team can play.
Volleys: Players can hit the ball in the air before it bounces, as long as it’s within the court.
Padel Equipment:
Racquet: A padel racquet is solid, perforated, and without strings. It’s shorter and lighter than a tennis racket.
Ball: A padel ball looks similar to a tennis ball however it is slightly less pressurised.
Wear tennis clay court shoes or padel specific shoes with a good grip to prevent slipping.
Clothing: Comfortable gym clothes or tennis clothes is recommended.
